I was holding off on this until I could slip it in at the top of a more substantial, imminent follow-up to last month<\/span>\u2019s Plague Journal entry. But plagues will be with us for the foreseeable future, I still haven\u2019t been able to look away from the headlights long enough to distill my notes into an actual <\/span>post<\/span>1<\/a><\/span><\/sup>, and this upcoming AMA thing happens in two days: Wednesday April 15th, to be precise. 9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific, work it out yourself if you don<\/span>\u2019t happen to be in either of those zones. So in the face of that imminent deadline, self-promotion gets a post all to itself.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There<\/span><\/span>\u2019s this book recommendation site, \u201c<\/span><\/span>WhatShouldIReadNext.com<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u201d. They\u2019ve been around long enough to accumulate a yearly base of 1.5 million readers, a number I can barely even dream of here at the \u2018crawl. They\u2019re booting up an AMA series to help us all fend off the stir-crazies for an hour or two; <\/span><\/span>I<\/span><\/span>\u2019m their inaugural author<\/span><\/span><\/a>. (Before you ask, No: I have no idea who the competition might have been, or if one of the organizers just lost a bet.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Full disclosure: it<\/span>\u2019s not free. You need to sign up as a \u201cpremium\u201d subscriber to get in and actually interact in text-time. It\u2019ll cost you anywhere from nine bucks to ninety, depending on whether you want to subscribe for a month or for the rest of your life (assuming there\u2019s a difference\u2014these days, who can really tell?) If you\u2019ve spent any time here, I\u2019m guessing you\u2019ll already have a sense of whether it\u2019s worth the price. Trust your feelings.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I believe a transcript of the whole thing will end up on the WSIN blog in the fullness of time, so whatever you decide you<\/span>\u2019ll still be able to read my answers to other people\u2019s questions for free. You just won\u2019t get to ask any of your own.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
