{"id":325,"date":"2009-03-05T15:03:31","date_gmt":"2009-03-05T23:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rifters.com\/crawl\/?p=325"},"modified":"2009-03-05T15:03:31","modified_gmt":"2009-03-05T23:03:31","slug":"bedtime-stories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rifters.com\/crawl\/?p=325","title":{"rendered":"Bedtime Stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More about me, I&#8217;m afraid.\u00a0 Given the current prospects for this gig I can&#8217;t really get motivated to invest the necessary time and effort for a proper science posting\u2014 but when other folks talk about me, I can talk about them in turn with minimal effort.<\/p>\n<p>Today the guy that&#8217;s talking about me writes something called GeekDad Review over at Wired.com, and he&#8217;s been kind enough to post a glowing <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wired.com\/geekdad\/2009\/03\/geekdad-review.html\">review of Starfish<\/a> almost ten years after the book first came out<sup>1<\/sup>.\u00a0 (Ten years. Oh Noodly One, ten fucking years.\u00a0 Am I rich yet?) And while such front-and-center attention from so high-profile a site is a very pleasant surprise in and of itself, what I find most fun is the subsequent reader comments falling over themselves to warn Mr <span style=\"margin-right: 20px;\"><span id=\"contributor\" class=\"c cs\">Baichtal that the subsequent rifters books (which he has not read) are full of rape and the ol&#8217; ultraviolence, and should probably not be read to youngsters at bedtime.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin-right: 20px;\"><span id=\"contributor\" class=\"c cs\">Of course.\u00a0 Geek<em>Dad<\/em>.\u00a0 I guess this column&#8217;s mandate is to recommend bedtime reading for the geeklets.\u00a0 Which would make <em>Starfish<\/em> a piece of children&#8217;s literature.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin-right: 20px;\"><span id=\"contributor\" class=\"c cs\">Well, okay, I guess.\u00a0 Anything to boost the hit count&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin-right: 20px;\"><span class=\"c cs\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><sup>1<\/sup>Less than a year after the trade-paper reissue, though.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More about me, I&#8217;m afraid.\u00a0 Given the current prospects for this gig I can&#8217;t really get motivated to invest the necessary time and effort for a proper science posting\u2014 but when other folks talk about me, I can talk about them in turn with minimal effort.
