{"id":31,"date":"2007-06-22T17:13:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-23T01:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rifters.com\/crawl\/?p=31"},"modified":"2007-06-22T17:13:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-23T01:13:00","slug":"the-new-superstar-of-the-science-fiction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rifters.com\/crawl\/?p=31","title":{"rendered":"The New Superstar of the Science Fiction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/rifters.com\/real\/uploaded_images\/blindflug-769109.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/rifters.com\/real\/uploaded_images\/blindflug-769106.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>Which is what Google&#8217;s translation software makes of <i>der neue Superstar der Science Fiction<\/i>, which is evidently what I am according to the Random House\/Bertelsmann web page heralding the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.de\/book\/edition.jsp?edi=251361\">German edition of <i>ButtPflug<\/i><\/a> \u2014 er, <i>Blindflug<\/i> \u2014 which translates as &#8220;Blind <i>Flight<\/i>&#8220;, but that&#8217;s fine because the literal translation of &#8220;Blind Sight&#8221;\u2014 Blinder Anblick \u2014 sounds out phonetically like a couple of attornies-at-law.<\/p>\n<p>Also, according to their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.de\/content\/download\/vertrieb\/vorschauen\/heyne_tb_sciencefiction_he2007.pdf\">catalog<\/a>,  I am a talent who &#8220;enters the international science fiction scene as it occurs only every ten years once&#8221; \u2014 which sounds nice \u2014 and &#8220;the present shooting star among American SF-authors&#8221;, which sounds even nicer until you remember that a) I&#8217;m not American, and b) shooting stars are flaming chunks of debris with life expectancies measured in seconds, disintegrating in public.<\/p>\n<p>Not a bad cover design, though.  Doesn&#8217;t take my breath away, but it&#8217;s perfectly serviceable and I see they stuck my name above the title and in an equally prominent font.
